Cambodia is emerging from decades of economic and social poverty, oppression and exploitation. Women and children throughout the country continue to be assaulted and trafficked for sexual or economic exploitation. Many Cambodians live in poverty where prospects are bleak, safety and the family unit is under threat.
Project Freedom in the country’s capital, Phnom Penh, provides counselling, child intervention training and social work services for people living in slums who have experienced child abuse and domestic violence. It also seeks to improve living conditions for families who live in the slums by assisting them with support for building or repairing their homes and making regular visits to connect them with services. Project Freedom seeks to break the destructive cycles of poverty, violence and oppression.
