The adult literacy rate in Bangladesh is around 50%, and for people living in rural villages this drops considerably. This project teaches literacy skills to both children and adults living in remote areas.
The project currently has 30 single class primary schools (with aims to increase this number) and a program that trains teachers to help children who have never gone to school (or started school but dropped out), learn reading and writing skills so that after a period of three years they are able to enter the government schools at the same standard as their peers. The project also teaches literacy skills to adults with separate classes for both men and women.
